We think he may have been poisoned I was just wanting to know some signs and symptoms and how we could possibly treat him
JA: I'll do all I can to help. What sort of animal are we talking about?
Customer: A pit bull pup around 3 to 4 months old
JA: Did you see what the pit ate?
Customer: No he was in and out of the house that day and when we got home he was vomiting and had diarrhea
JA: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about the pit?
Customer: He is still just laying around not doing much we are trying to give him Pedialyte to keep him hydrated

Hi I’m Dr ***** *****, so typically common signs of poison are similar to sickness or gi upset such as vomiting and diarrhea so it is hard to say from that other signs would be seizures or signs of bruising on gums or belly. Is he vaccinated?

We're not exactly sure whether he has been vaccinated or not the neighbor that had him was going to take and just dump him off somewhere and we would not allow that so we took him in I wish I knew if he had been vaccinated or not

it could be just a GI upset or intestinal parasites with a young dog like that the concern is always parvo with no vaccine history. I would monitor him and keep trying to give him pedialyte and get him to eat small amounts at a time. If he continues vomiting or having diarrhea I would get him to a vet as soon as possible.

No bruising or anything like that. His nose it's not moist and he seems to be kind of dry in the mouth but we are giving him Pedialyte at this time. He will drink a little water but he is refusing food. Would it hurt for us to give him some Pepto Bismol?

No not necessarily it could settle his stomach if it is just a gi upset.

We first noticed this on Monday evening and he wasn't eating or drinking anything at that point and he was barely breathing and he was vomiting and had diarrhea. He quit throwing up on Thursday night early Friday morning and started breathing a little bit better at that time also.

It could be he’s getting over a gi upset and is still just weak. If he doesn’t start improving more by tomorrow I would suggest taking him in to be checked out. With puppies there are several concerns such as eating something that could cause an obstruction, gi parasites, gi upset, or parvo. If he continues to improve some he may just have a gi upset and needs some time to recuperate.

Parvo was also something I thought it might be in the beginning. If he does not get a lot better by tomorrow we will see about finding a vet for him. If we decide to give him Pepto-Bismol what is the recommended dosage and time intervals to administer it
